About the artwork

Rainer is fascinated by the human body - the classic theme of artistic expression and struggle, depicted in all shapes, materials and mediums since the existence of mankind. Rainer's sculpture captures the human body in motion - freezing gestures and emotions in time. The sculptures are both ethereal and tangible, made using hollow steel squares. In this piece, he depicts a running athlete to illustrate the tenacity and strength required by the sport. When darkness falls and the lights come on, the exquisite shadows of form, squares, body and spirit cast themselves upon the walls creating a second sculpture of light and shadow, adding a new dimension to the overall piece.

About the artist

Born in Dusseldorf, Germany, Rainer Lagemann has lived in San Francisco Bay Area since 1988. Today Lagemann resides in Miami, where he creates modern metal sculptures from small steel squares, welding them into modern interpretations of the human body or abstract variations of contemporary sculptures. Trained as an interior architect, Lagemann arrived to sculpture later in his life, but his unique treatment of material and subject matter earned him immediate international recognition. Rainer’s works have been exhibited around the world, including Canada, Singapore, Europe, and dozens of world-renowned art fairs, and are also part of prestigious private and corporate collections
