About the artwork
This semi-abstract painting by Chinese artist Liu Zhengyong features two figures, who are rendered in a highly stylized manner. Through bold lines and thick brushstrokes, Liu captures the nuances of their bodies, illustrating the sculpted nature of their form. While these figures and their relationship remain mystifying to the viewer, Liu highlights their close relationship through their physical contact. Despite the simplicity of detail in this work, it speaks a thousand words as the artist presents a physical manifestation of complex emotions we feel in our lives, instilling expression into every stroke and creating an evocative atmosphere that stays with the viewer long after they have viewed the work
