About the artwork
In this evocative painting by Liu Zhengyong a man is depicted facing the viewer, who hunches over and clasps his hands behind his knees. Liu is highly inspired by the Expressionist art movement, and this is reflected through the vivid colour palette that mixes warm and cool tones, which are applied through quick brushstrokes, and bring life and energy to the work. With the human form being his most frequent subject, Zheng Yong’s paintings aim to depict the physical manifestation of complex emotions we feel in our lives. Besides striking visuals, his technique demonstrates his artistic depth and mastery of the brush and composition, as he instills expression into every delicate stroke.
