About the artwork
Lim’s vivid rendering of a tree reflects his enduring fascination with the perennial plant, and his admiration of the way they grow with vitality. This semi-abstract work features thick and bold brush strokes representing the strong roots and trunk of the tree, that enable it to stay upright even in times of chaos, which Lim feels is much like the values of a virtuous individual. The work’s vivid colour palette consists of vibrant washes of green, orange and yellow, as well as short and quick black brushstrokes, which work in harmony to capture the spirit of the sturdy tree, presenting it gloriously as being full of life. The work clearly highlights Lim’s appreciation of nature, as well as his artistic skill in capturing the details of the tree.
