Born in Boston, David Kracov studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and began his career in animation with the Brad Pitt feature, ‘Cool World.’ David went on to work with Disney Animation, Don Bluth Animation, Rich Animation, as well as several other studios, before beginning his solo work
as a sculptor and painter. Kracov’s vibrant color palette shows up in his unique steel wall sculptures that begin with hundreds of small sketches. David’s meticulous steel work along with his scrutinizing attention to detail allows his sculptures to take on a life of their own, and his famous butterflies take flight. David’s playful and creative works are each a testament to his steady hand and wonderfully unique artistic ideas. His work brings joy and humor to pop art.

Biography
David Kracov, whose paintbrush is guided by the ever-changing muse of pop culture, whose clay is shaped by the witty puns of the English language, and whose designs are brought to life by his literary prowess, has left his unmistakable fingerprint on the world of modern art. Known as the youngest artist ever to showcase in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Kracov has been building his portfolio since the age of 12 and attended the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design where he received his degree. David's youthful and untainted passion beginning from his time as a child artist has remained throughout his lifetime of work.
In 1990 after graduating, David moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in animation and quickly moved up in the ranks. Sculptor, painter, and animator, his hands have helped shape landmark movies including The Lion King and Aladdin; David truly understands how to capture the hearts of young and old alike. After discovering his passion for sculpting while working as an animator, in April 1993 a gallery specializing in animation art had an opening of David's sculptures and one-of-a-kind chess sets he created. An executive from Warner Bros Studios and Consumer Products happened to walk through the gallery while waiting for a restaurant reservation, and was so impressed with David's artistic style that within days David was commissioned to create a limited edition chess set for the Warner Bros. Studio Galleries. This lead to a subsequent commission by Disney Studios to create sculptures of individual characters as well as chess sets for their stores, galleries and theme parks.
After creating the world-famous sculpture commissioned by the Holocaust Museum of St Petersburg, Florida which depicts the Tazmanian Devil tearing the roof off of a boxcar to release hundreds of hand-painted butterflies, representing the souls of one million children who lost their lives in the Holocaust, David's artwork changed forever. David now adds one single butterfly to every piece that he creates - sometimes visible, sometimes hidden. This butterfly—this tribute to the delicacy and value of a child's life—has become David's signature trademark.
As a tribute to those who lost their lives on 9/11, David spent almost four years designing "Reflections", the metal wall sculpture which depicts the New York skyline, with his signature butterflies soaring towards the sky, where the Towers once stood. In the reflections below, the Towers can be seen. Sculptures from this edition adorn the walls of the properties of several prominent New York real estate tycoons.
David's passion for children extends far beyond his frames, however, leading to his pioneering the unexplored genre of "Lifesaving Art." After inspiring so many children through his work with animation and helping adults reconnect with their youthful curiosity through his metal sculptures and shadow boxes, David recently created a line of artwork to save the lives of children in critical need. This line has already raised thousands of dollars for Chabad's Children of Chernobyl—the only organization in the world that permanently evacuates and treats sick children from the Chernobyl region. To date, with the help of David, CCOC has saved the lives of over 2,600 children.
David's sculptures are included in the collections of several of Hollywood's elite entertainers, including Steven Spielberg, Matt Damon, Judy Sheindlin, Donald Trump, Liev Schreiber, Whoopi Goldberg, Joel Silver, and Kirk Douglas.
