Cai Zhi Song with his signature creation, 'Rose,' at the MOCA, Taipei, 2014
Born in 1972 in Shenyang, Liaoning Province in China, Cai Zhi Song is a sculptor whose powerful work has made him the representation of Chinese sculptural ingenuity and skill throughout the international art world. Being the first Chinese artist to win the prestigious Taylor prize at the Paris Autumn Salon in Eiffel-Branly - a highly coveted award that is given to only one distinguished artist every year, Zhi Song has gradually made his mark and exhibited at some of the most prestigious art institutions in the world.
In February 2014, Zhi Song held his solo exhibition 'History Re-Presented' at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Taipei, featuring large-scale works crafted in his signature style with historical significance, enhanced by modern sensibilities of material and composition.
Bearing motifs of clouds and roses, as was showcased during the artist's presence at Venice Biennale (assisted by Ode to Art), the works continued to defy the limitations of size and gravity, resulting in ethereal and exquisite aesthetic depictions of his signature style.
